The 2024 PMI National Conference, held at the picturesque Sebasco Harbor Resort in Maine, was more than just an annual gathering—it was a catalyst for change, innovation, and growth within the PMI family. PMI leaders, experts, and dedicated professionals from across the country utilized this year’s conference to drive conversations that will shape the future of our communities.
Collaboration & Networking
One of the most impactful aspects of the conference was the emphasis on collaboration. Attendees had the chance to network with peers, exchange ideas, and foster relationships that will go far beyond the three-day event. The diversity of voices—ranging from Property Managers, Maintenance Technicians, and Resident Service Coordinators—created a vibrant space where innovative ideas could thrive.
The tradeshow, in particular, allowed attendees to engage directly with national vendors and service providers who are at the forefront of affordable housing solutions. This kind of direct interaction opened doors for new partnerships, allowing housing professionals to explore a wide array of services that can elevate the quality and accessibility of our communities.
Training & Development
This year’s conference was also a cornerstone for professional development, offering a series of trainings designed to equip attendees with the tools they need to excel in their roles. Topics ranged from leadership, emotional intelligence, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, regulatory compliance, finance, preventative maintenance, soft skills within litigation, employee retention, and even education on the PMI awareness committees.
Many of these sessions featured hands-on learning opportunities, allowing participants to walk away with strategies they can implement immediately. For example, the Violence Prevention Committee hosted critical training sessions that empowered our teams to create safer, more supportive environments for residents. The committee also played an active role at the tradeshow, recruiting new members and raising awareness about the importance of violence prevention within housing communities.
Looking Ahead
The 2024 PMI National Conference reinforced the idea that affordable housing is a shared responsibility, requiring collaboration across all eighteen of our states, to ensure that everyone has access to a safe and affordable place to call home. The conversations, partnerships, and ideas generated at this year’s event are already beginning to shape new projects that will provide more housing opportunities for those in need.
As we move forward, the lessons learned, and the connections made at this year’s conference will continue to drive growth in our diverse communities. The PMI family is committed to building on these successes and working together to address the challenges that lie ahead.
The future of affordable housing looks brighter, thanks to the incredible efforts of all who participated in the 2024 PMI National Conference. Together, we are building stronger, more inclusive communities for all.
